The Original Fountain Designers
The Original Fountain Designers Often serving as architects, sculptors, artists, engineers and cultivated scholars all in one, from the 16th to the later part of the 18th century, fountain designers were multi-talented people, Leonardo da Vinci as a creative genius, inventor and scientific virtuoso exemplified this Renaissance creator. The forces of nature led him to investigate the properties and motion of water, and due to his curiosity, he methodically documented his findings in his now famed notebooks. Brilliant water displays full with symbolic significance and natural beauty transformed private villa settings when early Italian water feature creators fused resourcefulness with hydraulic and gardening skill. The humanist Pirro Ligorio, celebrated for his virtuosity in archeology, architecture and garden design, provided the vision behind the splendors in Tivoli. Well versed in humanist subjects and classical scientific texts, other fountain makers were masterminding the extraordinary water marbles, water properties and water pranks for the countless lands around Florence.
Statuary As a Staple of Vintage Art in Archaic Greece
Statuary As a Staple of Vintage Art in Archaic Greece The Archaic Greeks developed the 1st freestanding statuary, an impressive achievement as most sculptures up until then had been reliefs cut into walls and pillars. Most of these freestanding sculptures were what is known as kouros figures, statues of young, attractive male or female (kore) Greeks. Considered by Greeks to embody beauty, the kouroi were formed into firm, forward facing positions with one foot outstretched, and the male statues were always nude, brawny, and athletic. Life-sized versions of the kouroi appeared beginning in 650 BC. The Archaic period was tumultuous for the Greeks as they evolved into more sophisticated forms of government and art, and gained more information and facts about the peoples and cultures outside of Greece. Nevertheless, the Greek civilization was not slowed down by these challenges.
