Cultural Statuary in Old Greece

Cultural Statuary in Old GreeceCultural Statuary Old Greece 2018678990440.jpg Although most sculptors were paid by the temples to embellish the sophisticated columns and archways with renderings of the gods of old, as the time period came to a close, it became more common for sculptors to represent common people as well because plenty of Greeks had started to think of their religion as superstitious rather than sacred. Sometimes, a depiction of affluent families' forefathers would be commissioned to be laid inside of huge familial tombs, and portraiture, which would be replicated by the Romans upon their conquest of Greek civilization, also became customary. The use of sculpture and other art forms differed over the many years of The Greek Classical period, a time of creative progress when the arts had more than one objective. Greek sculpture was actually a modern component of antiquity, whether the explanation was faith based fervor or visual satisfaction, and its contemporary quality may be what endears it to us today.

From Where Did Water Features Originate?

From Where Did Water Features Originate? Himself a highly educated man, Pope Nicholas V headed the Roman Catholic Church from 1397 till 1455 and was responsible for the translation of scores of age-old texts from their original Greek into Latin. Embellishing Rome and making it the worthy capital of the Christian world was at the core of his ambitions. At the bidding of the Pope, the Aqua Vergine, a ruined aqueduct which had carried clean drinking water into Rome from eight miles away, was renovated starting in 1453. The ancient Roman custom of building an awe-inspiring commemorative fountain at the location where an aqueduct arrived, also known as a mostra, was revived by Nicholas V. The present-day site of the Trevi Fountain was formerly occupied by a wall fountain commissioned by the Pope and constructed by the architect Leon Battista Alberti. The Trevi Fountain as well as the well-known baroque fountains located in the Piazza del Popolo and the Piazza Navona were eventually supplied with water from the modified aqueduct he had reconstructed.
