Keeping Your Fountain Tidy

An extensive cleaning every 3-4 months is ideal for garden fountains. Before you can start washing it you must empty out all of the water. Once it is empty, clean inside the reservoir with a gentle cleanser. Feel free to use a toothbrush if helpful for any stubborn crevasses. Make sure all the soap is properly cleaned off.
Calcium and fresh water organisms can get inside the pump, so you should disassemble it to get it truly clean. You might want to let it soak in vinegar for a few hours to make it easier to wash. If you want to minimize build-up in your fountain, use rain water or mineral water rather than tap water, as these don’t contain any elements that will stick to the inside of the pump.
Lastly, make sure your fountain is always full by checking on it every day - this will keep it in tip-top shape. If the water level slides below the pump’s intake level, it can hurt the pump and cause it to burn out - something you do not want to happen!

Your Outdoor Living Area: The Perfect Spot for a Garden Fountain

The space necessary for a cascading or spouting fountain is substantial, so a wall fountain is the ideal size for a small yard. There are two types of fountains to choose from including the freestanding version with a flat back and an attached basin set up against a fence or a wall in your yard, or the wall-mounted, self-contained version which is suspended directly on a wall. Both a fountain mask located on the existing wall as well as a basin located at the bottom to collect the water are necessary if you wish to include a fountain. The plumbing and masonry work necessary for this kind of job requires know-how, so it is best to hire a skilled person rather than go at it yourself.
