A Chronicle of Wall Fountains
A Chronicle of Wall Fountains
Hundreds of classic Greek texts were translated into Latin under the authority of the scholarly Pope Nicholas V, who ruled the Roman Catholic Church from 1397 to 1455. He undertook the beautification of Rome to make it into the worthy capital of the Christian world. In 1453 the Pope instigated the repairing of the Aqua Vergine, an historic Roman aqueduct which had carried clean drinking water into the city from eight miles away. The ancient Roman custom of building an awe-inspiring commemorative fountain at the location where an aqueduct arrived, also known as a mostra, was revived by Nicholas V. The Trevi Fountain now occupies the space formerly filled with a wall fountain built by Leon Battista Albert, an architect employed by the Pope. Changes and extensions, included in the repaired aqueduct, eventually provided the Trevi Fountain and the well-known baroque fountains in the Piazza del Popolo and Piazza Navona with the necessary water supply.

While today’s garden fountains are made in a range of materials, most are made from metal. Those made from metals have clean lines and attractive sculptural elements, and are flexible enough to fit any budget and decor. It is essential that your landscape reflects the style of your residence. One of the more common metals for sculptural garden fountains these days is copper. Copper fountains are the best option because they are perfect for the inside and outside. Another benefit of copper fountains is they are flexible and come in a wide range of styles.
If your style is more conventional, a brass water fountain might work for you. Even though they are a bit old-fashioned, brass fountains are quite popular because they often incorporate interesting artwork.
Probably the most modern of all metals is stainless steel. A cutting-edge steel design will quickly increase the value of your garden as well as the feeling of peacefulness. As with all fountains, you can get any size you choose.
Fiberglass fountains are widespread because they look similar to metal but are more affordable and much easier to move around. It is simple to clean and maintain a fiberglass water fountain, yet another reason they are common.
