Rome’s Ingenious Water Transport Systems

Rome’s Ingenious Water Transport Systems Prior to 273, when the first elevated aqueduct, Aqua Anio Vetus, was constructed in Roma, citizens who lived on hillsides had to go even further down to gather their water from natural sources. If residents residing at higher elevations did not have accessibility to springs or the aqueduct, they’d have to count on the remaining existing systems of the time, cisterns that gathered rainwater from the sky and subterranean wells that received the water from below ground. From the early sixteenth century, water was routed to Pincian Hill by using the underground channel of Acqua Vergine. The aqueduct’s channel was made reachable by pozzi, or manholes, that were added along its length when it was first constructed. Though they were initially designed to make it possible to service the aqueduct, Cardinal Marcello Crescenzi started using the manholes to accumulate water from the channel, commencing when he bought the property in 1543. He didn’t get an adequate amount water from the cistern that he had built on his residential property to obtain rainwater. To provide himself with a much more practical way to assemble water, he had one of the manholes exposed, providing him access to the aqueduct below his property.

The Myriad Reasons to Add a Water Feature

The Myriad Reasons to Add a Water Feature You can enhance your outdoor area by adding a wall fountain or an outdoor garden water feature to your yard or gardening project.Myriad Reasons Add Water Feature 356700010501.jpg Modern-day artists and fountain builders alike use historical fountains and water features to shape their creations. As such, introducing one of these to your interior is a great way to connect it to the past. The advantage of having a garden fountain extends beyond its beauty as it also attracts birds and other wildlife, in addition to harmonizing the ecosystem with the water and moisture it releases into the atmosphere. For example, birds attracted by a fountain or birdbath can be useful because they fend off annoying flying insects.

Spouting or cascading fountains are not the best choice for a small garden since they need a great deal of space. You can choose to put in a stand-alone fountain with a flat back and an attached basin propped against a fence or wall in your backyard, or a wall-mounted type which is self-contained and hung from a wall. Both a fountain mask placed on the existing wall as well as a basin located at the bottom to collect the water are necessary if you wish to include a fountain. Be sure to hire a professional for this type of job since it is better not to do it yourself due to the intricate plumbing and masonry work needed.
