Anglo Saxon Grounds at the Time of the Norman Conquest

Anglo Saxon Grounds at the Time of the Norman Conquest The introduction of the Normans in the 2nd half of the 11th century irreparably transformed The Anglo-Saxon lifestyle. Architecture and gardening were attributes that the Normans excelled in, trumping that of the Anglo-Saxons at the time of the occupation. However the Normans had to pacify the overall territory before they could concentrate on home life, domestic architecture, and decoration. Castles were more standard designs and often erected on blustery hills, where their people spent both time and space to exercising offense and defense, while monasteries were large stone buildings, mostly located in the widest, most fertile hollows. Peaceful pursuits such as gardening were out of place in these desolate citadels. Berkeley Castle, maybe the most uncorrupted model of the early Anglo-Norman style of architecture, still exists in the present day. The keep is rumored to have been conceived during the time of William the Conqueror. An enormous terrace encompasses the building, serving as an obstruction to attackers intending to dig under the castle walls.Anglo Saxon Grounds Time Norman Conquest 810613459224866.jpg One of these terraces, a charming bowling green, is covered grass and flanked by an old yew hedge trimmed into the figure of crude battlements.

The Major Characteristics of Classic Greek Statuary

The Major Characteristics of Classic Greek Statuary Up right up until the Archaic Greeks provided the 1st freestanding statuary, a remarkable triumph, carvings had mainly been done in walls and pillars as reliefs. For the most part the statues, or kouros figures, were of adolescent and nice-looking male or female (kore) Greeks. Representing beauty to the Greeks, the kouroi were created to look rigid and commonly had foot in front; the males were vigorous, sturdy, and naked. In about 650 BC, the variations of the kouroi became life-sized. The Archaic period was an extraordinary point of transformation for the Greeks as they extended into new modes of government, created fresh expressions of art, and achieved knowledge of the people and cultures outside of Greece. Notwithstanding, these conflicts did little to hinder the progress of the Greek civilization.
