Rome’s Ingenious Water Transport Systems

Rome’s Ingenious Water Transport Systems Aqua Anio Vetus, the first raised aqueduct founded in Rome, commenced supplying the many people living in the hills with water in 273 BC, even though they had counted on natural springs up till then. When aqueducts or springs weren’t easily accessible, people living at higher elevations turned to water pulled from underground or rainwater, which was made available by wells and cisterns.Rome’s Ingenious Water Transport Systems 64518761877044483.jpg To supply water to Pincian Hill in the early 16th century, they applied the brand-new method of redirecting the stream from the Acqua Vergine aqueduct’s underground network. As originally constructed, the aqueduct was provided along the length of its channel with pozzi (manholes) constructed at regular intervals. Whilst these manholes were developed to make it easier to conserve the aqueduct, it was also possible to use buckets to remove water from the channel, which was utilized by Cardinal Marcello Crescenzi from the time he obtained the property in 1543 to his passing in 1552. It appears that, the rainwater cistern on his property wasn’t good enough to meet his needs. Fortunately, the aqueduct sat directly below his residence, and he had a shaft established to give him accessibility.

Garden fountains nowadays are mostly made from metal, although you can find them in other materials too. Metals tend to produce clean lines and unique sculptural accents and can fit almost any design preference or budget. The interior design of your house should set the look and feel of your yard and garden as well.

One of the most common metals for sculptural garden fountains these days is copper. Copper is popular for both inside and outside use and is widely found in tabletop and cascade fountains, among others. Another advantage of copper fountains is they are versatile and come in a wide assortment of styles.

If your style is more traditional, a brass water fountain might be ideal for you. Though not the most stylish, the creatures and sculptural features you find on fountains are commonly made of brass, thus making them very popular.

Of all the metals, stainless steel is seen as the most modern -looking. Adding a modern-looking steel design will immediately add value to your garden and elevate the overall atmosphere. Just like other water features, they come in an array of sizes.

Fiberglass fountains are widespread because they look similar to metal but are more affordable and much less difficult to move around. Caring for a fiberglass water fountain is relatively easy, another benefit that consumers love.
