The Main Characteristics of Ancient Greek Statues
The Main Characteristics of Ancient Greek Statues Archaic Greeks were well known for providing the first freestanding statuary; up until then, most carvings were formed out of walls and pillars as reliefs. Most of the freestanding statues were of young, winsome male or female (kore) Greeks and are termed kouros figures.
Representing beauty to the Greeks, the kouroi were designed to look stiff and typically had foot in front; the males were vigorous, robust, and nude. In around 650 BC, the differences of the kouroi became life-sized. The Archaic period was tumultuous for the Greeks as they evolved into more polished forms of government and art, and obtained more data about the peoples and civilizations outside of Greece. But in spite of the issues, the Greek civilization went on to progress, unabated.
Anglo Saxon Grounds During the Norman Conquest
Anglo Saxon Grounds During the Norman Conquest The introduction of the Normans in the 2nd half of the eleventh century irreparably transformed The Anglo-Saxon lifestyle. The Normans were better than the Anglo-Saxons at architecture and horticulture when they came into power. But the Normans had to pacify the whole territory before they could focus on home life, domestic architecture, and decoration. Most often constructed upon windy peaks, castles were straightforward constructs that enabled their occupants to devote time and space to offensive and defensive programs, while monasteries were rambling stone buildings frequently installed in only the most fecund, extensive valleys. Gardening, a placid occupation, was impracticable in these fruitless fortifications. The early Anglo-Norman style of architecture is exemplified in Berkeley Castle, which is perhaps the most unscathed sample we have. The keep is said to date from William the Conqueror's time. As a method of deterring attackers from tunneling under the walls, an immense terrace encircles the building. On 1 of these terraces lies a charming bowling green: it is covered in grass and flanked by an old yew hedge that is formed into the shape of rough ramparts.
