Gian Bernini's Garden Fountains
Gian Bernini's Garden Fountains There are any number of celebrated Roman water features in its city center. Pretty much all of them were planned, architected and constructed by one of the greatest sculptors and artists of the 17th century, Gian Lorenzo Bernini. He was also a city designer, in addition to his skills as a water fountain engineer, and remnants of his life's work are noticeable throughout the streets of Rome. Bernini's father, a renowned Florentine sculptor, mentored his young son, and they ultimately moved to Rome, in order to fully express their art, primarily in the form of public water fountains and water features. An outstanding workman, Bernin received compliments and the patronage of popes and well known artists. Originally he was celebrated for his sculpting skills. An expert in historical Greek architecture, he utilized this knowledge as a platform and melded it seamlessly with Roman marble, most notably in the Vatican.
