The Original Garden Fountain Manufacturers
The Original Garden Fountain Manufacturers Often serving as architects, sculptors, designers, engineers and discerning scholars, all in one, fountain designers were multi-talented people from the 16th to the later part of the 18th century. During the Renaissance, Leonardo da Vinci exemplified the creator as an innovative genius, creator and scientific virtuoso. The forces of nature guided him to explore the qualities and motion of water, and due to his curiosity, he methodically recorded his findings in his now celebrated notebooks. Brilliant water displays full of symbolic significance and all-natural charm converted private villa settings when early Italian water feature designers paired imagination with hydraulic and gardening abilities. The splendors in Tivoli were provided by the humanist Pirro Ligorio, who was famed for his capabilities in archeology, architecture and garden design. Other water feature designers, masterminding the incredible water marbles, water attributes and water jokes for the various mansions near Florence, were well-versed in humanist themes and time-honored scientific readings.
Back Story of Wall Fountains
Back Story of Wall Fountains Pope Nicholas V, himself a well educated man, governed the Roman Catholic Church from 1397 to 1455 during which time he commissioned many translations of ancient classic Greek documents into Latin. Beautifying Rome and making it the worthy capital of the Christian world was at the core of his ambitions. Beginning in 1453, the ruined ancient Roman aqueduct known as the Aqua Vergine which had brought fresh drinking water into the city from eight miles away, underwent repair at the behest of the Pope. The ancient Roman custom of marking the entry point of an aqueduct with an imposing celebratory fountain, also known as a mostra, was restored by Nicholas V. The present-day site of the Trevi Fountain was formerly occupied by a wall fountain commissioned by the Pope and constructed by the architect Leon Battista Alberti. The water which eventually furnished the Trevi Fountain as well as the renown baroque fountains in the Piazza del Popolo and Piazza Navona flowed from the modified aqueduct which he had renovated.
