Drinking water was delivered by public fountains, long before fountains became ornate public monuments, as beautiful as they are functional. Fountains with ornamental Gods, mythological beasts, and animals began to appear in Rome in about 6 BC, built from stone and bronze. The City of Rome had an intricate system of aqueducts that supplied the water for the countless fountains that were situated throughout the city.

Younger, appealing male or female (kore) Greeks were the subject matter of most of the sculptures, or kouros figures.
Representing beauty to the Greeks, the kouroi were designed to appear stiff and typically had foot forward; the males were vigorous, powerful, and nude. The kouroi started to be life-sized beginning in 650 BC. A significant era of transformation for the Greeks, the Archaic period brought about more forms of state, expressions of art, and a higher appreciation of people and customs outside of Greece. But in spite of the issues, the Greek civilization continued to progress, unabated.
