Back Story of Outdoor Garden Fountains
Back Story of Outdoor Garden Fountains Himself a highly educated man, Pope Nicholas V headed the Roman Catholic Church from 1397 till 1455 and was responsible for the translation of scores of age-old documents from their original Greek into Latin.
Beautifying Rome and making it the worthy capital of the Christian world was at the core of his ambitions. Beginning in 1453, the ruined ancient Roman aqueduct known as the Aqua Vergine which had brought fresh drinking water into the city from eight miles away, underwent repair at the behest of the Pope. A mostra, a monumental commemorative fountain built by ancient Romans to mark the point of entry of an aqueduct, was a tradition which was restored by Nicholas V. At the bidding of the Pope, architect Leon Battista Alberti undertook the construction of a wall fountain in the place where we now find the Trevi Fountain. Adjustments and extensions, included in the repaired aqueduct, eventually supplied the Trevi Fountain and the well-known baroque fountains in the Piazza del Popolo and Piazza Navona with the necessary water supply.
Anglo-Saxon Landscapes During the Norman Conquest
Anglo-Saxon Landscapes During the Norman Conquest The introduction of the Normans in the second half of the eleventh century irreparably improved The Anglo-Saxon lifestyle. Architecture and gardening were skills that the Normans excelled in, trumping that of the Anglo-Saxons at the time of the occupation.
But home life, household architecture, and decoration were out of the question until the Normans taken over the rest of the population. Most often built upon windy summits, castles were fundamental structures that permitted their occupants to spend time and space to offensive and defensive schemes, while monasteries were rambling stone buildings generally installed in only the most fecund, broad valleys. The barren fortresses did not provide for the peaceful avocation of farming. The purest example of the early Anglo-Norman style of architecture existent today is Berkeley Castle. It is said that the keep was created during William the Conqueror's time. An enormous terrace encompasses the building, serving as an obstacle to assailants trying to excavate under the castle walls. On 1 of these terraces lies a quaint bowling green: it is covered in grass and flanked by an old yew hedge that is created into the shape of rough ramparts.
