If residents living at higher elevations did not have access to springs or the aqueduct, they’d have to count on the remaining existing technologies of the day, cisterns that gathered rainwater from the sky and subterranean wells that received the water from under ground. To provide water to Pincian Hill in the early 16th century, they utilized the brand-new approach of redirecting the flow from the Acqua Vergine aqueduct’s underground channel. As originally constructed, the aqueduct was provided along the length of its channel with pozzi (manholes) constructed at regular intervals. While these manholes were provided to make it less difficult to manage the aqueduct, it was also feasible to use buckets to pull water from the channel, which was employed by Cardinal Marcello Crescenzi from the time he purchased the property in 1543 to his passing in 1552. It appears that, the rainwater cistern on his property wasn’t sufficient to meet his needs. That is when he made the decision to create an access point to the aqueduct that ran under his property.

What Are Outdoor Fountains Created From?

What Are Outdoor Fountains Created From?Outdoor Fountains Created From? 13102867213239974412.jpg Most modern garden fountains come in metal, although many other types exist. Those made from metals have clean lines and unique sculptural elements, and are versatile enough to fit any budget and decor. It is very important that your landscape reflects the style of your residence.

One of the more common metals for sculptural garden fountains presently is copper. Copper is used in cascade and tabletop water fountains as well as various other styles, making it perfect for inside and outside fountains. Copper is also adaptable enough that you can choose a range of styles for your fountain, from contemporary to whimsical.

Brass water fountains are also common, although they tend to have a more traditional look than copper ones. Brass fountains are commonly designed with intriguing artwork, so they are popular even if they are a bit conventional.

Most people today see stainless steel as the most modern alternative. A cutting-edge steel design will quickly increase the value of your garden as well as the feeling of peacefulness. As with any type of fountain, they are available in many sizes.

For people who want the look of a metal fountain but want a lighter weight and more affordable option, fiberglass is the answer. It is not complicated to clean and maintain a fiberglass water fountain, yet another reason they are popular.

Bernini’s First Italian Fountains

Bernini’s First Italian Fountains The Barcaccia, Bernini's first water fountain, is a striking chef d'oeuvre built at the bottom of the Trinita dei Monti in Piaza di Spagna. To this day, you will see Roman locals and vacation goers filling this space to revel in chit chatter and being among other people. One of the city’s most stylish meeting places are the streets surrounding Bernini's fountain, which would undoubtedly have brought a smile to the great Bernini. In about 1630, the great artist designed the very first fountain of his career at the behest of Pope Ubano VIII. The fountain’s central theme is based on a massive vessel slowly sinking into the Mediterranean Sea. According to 16th century texts, a great flood of the Tevere covered the entire area in water, an event which was commemorated by the eye-catching fountain. In 1665, France was graced by Bernini's one-and-only prolonged journey outside of Italy.
