Statuary As a Staple of Vintage Art in Archaic Greece

Statuary As a Staple of Vintage Art in Archaic Greece The first freestanding statuary was improved by the Archaic Greeks, a notable success since until then the only carvings in existence were reliefs cut into walls and columns. Most of these freestanding sculptures were what is known as kouros figures, statues of young, attractive male or female (kore) Greeks. Regarded as by Greeks to characterize splendour, the kouroi were created into inflexible, forward facing positions with one foot outstretched, and the male statues were always nude, brawny, and fit. Life-sized versions of the kouroi appeared beginning in 650 BC. The Archaic period was tumultuous for the Greeks as they progressed into more refined forms of government and art, and obtained more data about the peoples and civilizations outside of Greece. The Arcadian wars, the Spartan penetration of Samos, and other wars between city-states are good examples of the types of clashes that emerged frequently, which is consistent with other times of historical transformation.

Where did Fountains Begin?

Fountains Begin? 8096586422733.jpg Where did Fountains Begin? The incredible architecture of a fountain allows it to provide clean water or shoot water high into air for dramatic effect and it can also serve as an excellent design feature to complement your home.

From the beginning, outdoor fountains were soley there to serve as functional elements. Water fountains were connected to a spring or aqueduct to supply drinkable water as well as bathing water for cities, townships and villages. Up until the 19th century, fountains had to be higher and closer to a water supply, such as aqueducts and reservoirs, in order to take advantage of gravity which fed the fountains. Fountains were not only utilized as a water source for drinking water, but also to adorn homes and celebrate the artist who created it. The main components used by the Romans to create their fountains were bronze or stone masks, mostly illustrating animals or heroes. To replicate the gardens of paradise, Muslim and Moorish garden planners of the Middle Ages introduced fountains to their designs. Fountains played a considerable role in the Gardens of Versailles, all part of French King Louis XIV’s desire to exert his power over nature. To mark the entrance of the restored Roman aqueducts, the Popes of the 17th and 18th centuries commissioned the construction of baroque style fountains in the spot where the aqueducts entered the city of Rome

Indoor plumbing became the key source of water by the end of the 19th century thereby restricting urban fountains to mere decorative elements. The introduction of unique water effects and the recycling of water were two things made possible by swapping gravity with mechanical pumps.

Nowadays, fountains adorn public areas and are used to recognize individuals or events and fill recreational and entertainment needs.
