Original Water Delivery Techniques in Rome

Original Water Delivery Techniques in Rome Prior to 273, when the very first elevated aqueduct, Aqua Anio Vetus, was established in Roma, residents who resided on hillsides had to journey even further down to gather their water from natural sources. Outside of these aqueducts and springs, wells and rainwater-collecting cisterns were the sole technologies around at the time to supply water to spots of higher elevation. From the beginning of the sixteenth century, water was routed to Pincian Hill through the underground channel of Acqua Vergine.Original Water Delivery Techniques Rome 6103752725461108.jpg Spanning the length of the aqueduct’s channel were pozzi, or manholes, that gave access. Although they were primarily designed to make it possible to service the aqueduct, Cardinal Marcello Crescenzi started using the manholes to gather water from the channel, commencing when he bought the property in 1543. The cistern he had made to gather rainwater wasn’t satisfactory to meet his water needs. To give himself with a more efficient way to gather water, he had one of the manholes exposed, providing him access to the aqueduct below his residence.

One of the most distinguished sculptors and artists of the 17th century, Gian Lorenzo Bernini planned, conceived and built almost all of them. Also a city architect, he had abilities as a fountain developer, and remnants of his life's work are obvious throughout the streets of Rome. Bernini's father, a renowned Florentine sculptor, mentored his young son, and they ultimately moved to Rome, in order to fully express their art, primarily in the form of public water fountains and water features. The young Bernini earned praise from Popes and influential artists alike, and was an excellent worker. At the beginning he was recognized for his sculptural abilities. Working seamlessly with Roman marble, he utilized a base of knowledge in the ancient Greek architecture, most famously in the Vatican. Though many artists had an influence on his work, Michelangelo had the most profound effect.
