Archaic Greek Art: Garden Statuary Up until the Archaic Greeks developed the first freestanding sculpture, a remarkable success, carvings had largely been accomplished in walls and pillars as reliefs. Kouros figures, sculptures of young, handsome male or female (kore) Greeks, made up the majority of the sculptures.
