Bernini’s Very First Italian Fountains
Bernini’s Very First Italian Fountains The Barcaccia, Bernini's very first water fountain, is a striking chef d'oeuvre built at the foot of the Trinita dei Monti in Piaza di Spagna. To this day, you will see Roman locals and vacation goers occupying this space to revel in chit chatter and being among other people. One of the city’s most fashionable gathering places are the streets surrounding Bernini's fountain, which would certainly have brought a smile to the great Bernini. The master's very first water fountain of his career was built at around 1630 at the request of Pope Urbano VIII.
A massive ship slowly sinking into the Mediterranean is the fountain's central theme. According to 16th century documents, a great flood of the Tevere covered the entire area in water, an event which was commemorated by the tremendous fountain. In 1665 Bernini journeyed to France, in what was to be his sole lengthy absence from Italy.
Landscape Fountains Defined
Landscape Fountains Defined The description of a water feature is a large component which has water flowing in or through it. The range of goods available run the gamut from uncomplicated suspended wall fountains to elaborate courtyard tiered fountains.
Since they are so functional, these decorative elements can be placed either in your backyard or inside your home. Swimming pools and ponds are also considered water elements. Consider putting in a water element such as a garden wall fountain to your large backyard, yoga studio, cozy patio, apartment balcony, or office building. In addition to helping you kick back, both sight and sound are enticed by the soothing sounds of a water fountain. With their visibly pleasing form you can also use them to accentuate the decor in your home or other living space. Gently moving water not only results in a feeling of peace, it also masks bothersome noises and produces an enchanting water show.
The Wide Array of Outdoor Wall Fountains
The Wide Array of Outdoor Wall Fountains Having a wall fountain in your backyard or on a terrace is ideal when you seek to relax. Additionally, it can be designed to fit into any wall space since it does not take up much room. Both the stand alone and mounted types must have a spout, a water basin, internal tubing, and a pump. There are many different varieties available on the market including traditional, contemporary, classical, or Asian. Usually quite large, freestanding wall fountains, also known as floor fountains, have their basins on the ground.
It is possible to integrate a wall-mounted fountain onto an already existing wall or built into a new wall. This style of fountain contributes to a cohesive look making it appear as if it was part of the landscape instead of an added feature.
Acqua Vergine: The Answer to Rome's Water Problems
Acqua Vergine: The Answer to Rome's Water Problems Rome’s first raised aqueduct, Aqua Anio Vetus, was built in 273 BC; prior to that, citizens living at higher elevations had to rely on local springs for their water.
When aqueducts or springs weren’t accessible, people dwelling at greater elevations turned to water drawn from underground or rainwater, which was made possible by wells and cisterns. From the beginning of the sixteenth century, water was routed to Pincian Hill via the underground channel of Acqua Vergine. The aqueduct’s channel was made reachable by pozzi, or manholes, that were positioned along its length when it was first engineered. While these manholes were created to make it simpler and easier to manage the aqueduct, it was also possible to use buckets to pull water from the channel, which was employed by Cardinal Marcello Crescenzi from the time he purchased the property in 1543 to his death in 1552. He didn’t get a sufficient quantity of water from the cistern that he had constructed on his property to gather rainwater. That is when he made the decision to create an access point to the aqueduct that ran under his property.
