The Source of Today's Outdoor Fountains
The translation of hundreds of ancient Greek documents into Latin was commissioned by the learned Pope Nicholas V who led the Church in Rome from 1397 till 1455. He undertook the beautification of Rome to make it into the model seat of the Christian world. Beginning in 1453, the ruined ancient Roman aqueduct known as the Aqua Vergine which had brought fresh drinking water into the city from eight miles away, underwent repair at the bidding of the Pope. The historical Roman custom of marking the entry point of an aqueduct with an imposing celebratory fountain, also known as a mostra, was restored by Nicholas V. At the bidding of the Pope, architect Leon Battista Alberti undertook the construction of a wall fountain in the spot where we now find the Trevi Fountain. The Trevi Fountain as well as the renowned baroque fountains found in the Piazza del Popolo and the Piazza Navona were eventually supplied with water from the modified aqueduct he had rebuilt.
The Many Good Reasons to Include a Fountain
The Many Good Reasons to Include a Fountain
You can enhance your exterior area by including a wall fountain or an outdoor garden water feature to your property or gardening project. Contemporary artists and fountain builders alike use historical fountains and water features to shape their creations. As such, the impact of integrating one of these to your home decor connects it to past times. The advantage of having a garden fountain extends beyond its beauty as it also appeals to birds and other wildlife, in addition to harmonizing the ecosystem with the water and moisture it emits into the atmosphere. Flying, irritating insects, for instance, are scared away by the birds congregating around the fountain or birdbath. The space necessary for a cascading or spouting fountain is substantial, so a wall fountain is the perfect size for a small yard. You can choose to install a stand-alone fountain with a flat back and an attached basin propped against a fence or wall in your backyard, or a wall-mounted type which is self-contained and hung from a wall. A water feature can be added to an existing wall if you include some sort of fountain mask as well as a basin to gather the water below. It is best not to undertake this job on your own as professional plumbers and masons are more suitable to do this type of work.
