When and Where Did Water Features Emerge?
When and Where Did Water Features Emerge?
Hundreds of ancient Greek records were translated into Latin under the auspices of the scholarly Pope Nicholas V, who ruled the Roman Catholic Church from 1397 to 1455. He undertook the embellishment of Rome to turn it into the worthy capital of the Christian world. In 1453 the Pope commissioned the reconstruction of the Aqua Vergine, an ancient Roman aqueduct which had carried fresh drinking water into the city from eight miles away. The ancient Roman tradition of building an imposing commemorative fountain at the point where an aqueduct arrived, also known as a mostra, was revived by Nicholas V. The architect Leon Battista Alberti was commissioned by the Pope to put up a wall fountain where we now see the Trevi Fountain. The aqueduct he had refurbished included modifications and extensions which eventually allowed it to supply water to the Trevi Fountain as well as the renowned baroque fountains in the Piazza del Popolo and the Piazza Navona.
The Various Construction Materials of Garden Water fountains
The Various Construction Materials of Garden Water fountains Most modern garden fountains come in metal, although many other types exist. Metallic versions offer clean lines and unique sculptural accents and will fit in with nearly any decorative style and budget. It is essential that your landscape design reflects the style of your residence. At present, copper is quite prevalent for sculptural garden fountains. Copper is appropriate for many fountain styles, including tabletop and cascade water fountains, and can be placed inside or outside - making it a great option. Copper fountains also come in a vast array of designs - from fun and eccentric to modern and cutting-edge.
Also popular, brass fountains generally have a more old-fashioned style to them versus their copper counterpart. Even though they are a bit old-fashioned, brass fountains are quite widespread because they often incorporate interesting artwork.
Probably the most contemporary of all metals is stainless steel. A contemporary steel design will quickly increase the value of your garden as well as the feeling of peacefulness. Like all water fountains, you can get them in just about any size you prefer.
Because it is both lighter and more affordable than metal but has a comparable look, fiberglass is quite common for fountains. It is not complicated to clean and maintain a fiberglass water fountain, yet another reason they are popular.
