Keeping Your Large Garden Fountains Tidy
Keeping Your Large Garden Fountains Tidy Water fountains will keep working a long time with scheduled cleaning and maintenance. A typical issue with fountains is that they tend to gather dirt and debris, so it is essential that you keep it free from this. Another factor is that water that is exposed to sunlight is prone to growing algae. Either sea salt, hydrogen peroxide, or vinegar can be blended into the water to prevent this problem. Some people opt for pouring bleach into the water, but the drawback is that it harms wildlife - so it should be avoided.
A thorough cleaning every 3-4 months is best for garden fountains. Before you start cleaning, all the water must be removed. When you have done this, wash inside the water reservoir with a gentle detergent. Feel free to use a toothbrush if needed for any tiny crevasses. Be sure to thoroughly rinse the inside of the fountain to make sure all the soap is gone.
Make sure you get rid of any calcium or plankton by taking the pump apart and scrubbing the inside properly. To make it less strenuous, soak it in vinegar for several hours before cleaning. If you want to remove build-up in your fountain, use rain water or mineral water versus tap water, as these don’t contain any components that will stick to the inside of the pump.
Finally, be sure to have a quick look at your fountain daily and add water if you notice that the level is depleted. Low water levels can damage the pump - and you don't want that!
