Back Story of Garden Fountains
Back Story of Garden Fountains
Hundreds of classic Greek records were translated into Latin under the auspices of the scholarly Pope Nicholas V, who ruled the Roman Catholic Church from 1397 to 1455. He undertook the beautification of Rome to turn it into the model capital of the Christian world. In 1453 the Pope commissioned the repairing of the Aqua Vergine, an ancient Roman aqueduct which had carried fresh drinking water into the city from eight miles away. The ancient Roman custom of building an imposing commemorative fountain at the point where an aqueduct arrived, also known as a mostra, was resurrected by Nicholas V. The present-day site of the Trevi Fountain was once occupied by a wall fountain commissioned by the Pope and built by the architect Leon Battista Alberti. The aqueduct he had reconditioned included modifications and extensions which eventually enabled it to supply water to the Trevi Fountain as well as the renowned baroque fountains in the Piazza del Popolo and the Piazza Navona.
Your Garden: A Great Spot for a Wall Fountain
Your Garden: A Great Spot for a Wall Fountain The area outside your home can be enhanced by including a wall or a garden fountain to your landscaping or garden project. Many contemporary designers and craftsmen have been influenced by historical fountains and water features. You can also strengthen the link to the past by adding one of these to your home's interior design. Among the many properties of these beautiful garden water features is the water and moisture they discharge into the air which attracts birds and other wild life as well as helps to balance the ecosystem. For instance, irksome flying insects are usually deterred by the birds drawn to the fountain or birdbath. Spouting or cascading fountains are not the best alternative for a small yard since they occupy a great deal of space. Two options to choose from include either a freestanding type with an even back set against a fence or wall in your backyard, or a wall-mounted, self-contained type which is suspended on a wall. A fountain can be added to an existing wall if you include some sort of fountain mask as well as a basin to collect the water at the bottom. It is best not to attempt this job yourself as skilled plumbers and masons are more suitable to do this type of work.
