Sculpture As a Staple of Classic Art in Historic Greece Archaic Greeks were well known for creating the first freestanding statuary; up until then, most carvings were formed out of walls and pillars as reliefs. Kouros figures, statues of young, good-looking male or female (kore) Greeks, made up the bulk of the sculptures. Considered by Greeks to characterize splendour, the kouroi were shaped into stiff, forward facing poses with one foot outstretched, and the male statues were usually nude, muscular, and athletic. Life-sized versions of the kouroi appeared beginning in 650 BC. A huge period of improvement for the Greeks, the Archaic period introduced about new forms of government, expressions of artwork, and a higher appreciation of people and cultures outside of Greece.
However, these clashes did little to impede the advancement of the Greek civilization.

An un-named French water fountain developer was an internationally renowned hydraulic innovator in the late 1500's. By designing landscapes and grottoes with built-in and clever water attributes, he began his career in Italy by getting Royal commissions in Brussels, London and Germany. The publication, “The Principles of Moving Forces,” written near the end of his life in France, became the definitive text on hydraulic mechanics and engineering. Modernizing key hydraulic breakthroughs of classical antiquity, the publication also details contemporary hydraulic technologies. The water screw, a technical way to move water, and devised by Archimedes, was featured in the book. Sunlight heated the liquid in a pair of concealed containers next to the ornamental water feature were displayed in an illustration. What occurs is the heated liquid expanded, rises and closes up the piping leading to the water feature, consequently leading to stimulation. Models for pumps, water wheels, water features and garden ponds are also covered in the book.
