Bernini's First Showpieces
Bernini's First Showpieces The Barcaccia, a beautiful fountain constructed at the base of the Trinita dei Monti in Piaza di Spagna, was Bernini's earliest water fountain. Roman residents and site seers who appreciate conversation as well as being the company of others still go to this spot. Today, the city streets surrounding Bernini's fountain are a trendy place where people go to gather, something which the artist would have been pleased to learn. In about 1630, the great master built the very first water fountain of his career at the behest of Pope Ubano VIII. The fountain’s central motif is based on an enormous boat slowly sinking into the Mediterranean Sea. According to 16th century reports, a great flood of the Tevere covered the entire area in water, an event which was memorialized by the magnificent fountain. In 1665 Bernini journeyed to France, in what was to be his sole prolonged absence from Italy. The Many Good Reasons to Add a Fountain
The Many Good Reasons to Add a Fountain The area outside your residence can be enhanced by including a wall or a garden fountain to your landscaping or garden project. Any number of current designers and fountain craftsmen have found inspiration in the fountains and water features of the past.
The space necessary for a cascading or spouting fountain is substantial, so a wall fountain is the perfect size for a small yard. Two possibilities to choose from include either a freestanding type with an even back set against a fence or wall in your garden, or a wall-mounted, self-contained type which is suspended on a wall. Both a fountain mask located on the existing wall as well as a basin located at the bottom to collect the water are necessary if you wish to include a fountain. The plumbing and masonry work necessary for this type of job requires expertise, so it is best to hire a skilled person rather than go at it yourself.
