Sculpture As a Staple of Classic Art in Historic Greece
Sculpture As a Staple of Classic Art in Historic Greece Archaic Greeks were known for creating the first freestanding statuary; up till then, most carvings were made out of walls and pillars as reliefs. Most of these freestanding sculptures were what is known as kouros figures, statues of young, attractive male or female (kore) Greeks. The kouroi were considered by the Greeks to represent beauty and were sculpted with one foot leading and an uncompromising rigidity to their forward-facing poses; the male statues were always strapping, sinewy, and undressing. Life-sized versions of the kouroi appeared beginning in 650 BC. During the Archaic period, a big time of change, the Greeks were evolving new forms of government, expressions of art, and a better understanding of people and cultures outside Greece. Nevertheless, the Greek civilization was not slowed down by these challenges.Garden Fountains As Water Features
