The Distribution of Outdoor Garden Fountain Manufacturing Knowledge in Europe

The Distribution of Outdoor Garden Fountain Manufacturing Knowledge in Europe Throughout the European countries, the primary means of spreading useful hydraulic information and fountain design suggestions were the circulated pamphlets and illustrated publications of the time, which contributed to the advancement of scientific innovation. An internationally recognized innovator in hydraulics in the later part of the 1500's was a French water fountain engineer, whose name has been lost to history. His know-how in designing landscapes and grottoes with built-in and brilliant water features began in Italy and with mandates in Brussels, London and Germany. He wrote a book entitled “The Principles of Moving Forces” toward the end of his life while in France that came to be the basic tome on hydraulic technology and engineering. Updating principal hydraulic advancements of classical antiquity, the publication also details modern hydraulic technologies. As a mechanized method to move water, Archimedes devised the water screw, chief among key hydraulic innovations. Sunlight heated the liquid in two concealed containers adjacent to the ornamental fountain were shown in an illustration. What occurs is the heated water expanded, rises and locks up the piping leading to the water feature, and thus leading to activation. Concepts for pumps, water wheels, water features and outdoor ponds are also mentioned in the publication.

Back Story of Outdoor Water Fountains

Back Story Outdoor Water Fountains 8319880634.jpg Back Story of Outdoor Water Fountains The translation of hundreds of classical Greek documents into Latin was commissioned by the learned Pope Nicholas V who led the Church in Rome from 1397 until 1455. He undertook the beautification of Rome to make it into the worthy seat of the Christian world. Beginning in 1453, the ruined ancient Roman aqueduct known as the Aqua Vergine which had brought fresh drinking water into the city from eight miles away, underwent repair at the bidding of the Pope. Building a mostra, a grandiose celebratory fountain built by ancient Romans to memorialize the arrival point of an aqueduct, was a custom revived by Nicholas V. At the bidding of the Pope, architect Leon Battista Alberti began the construction of a wall fountain in the place where we now find the Trevi Fountain. The water which eventually supplied the Trevi Fountain as well as the acclaimed baroque fountains in the Piazza del Popolo and Piazza Navona came from the modified aqueduct which he had renovated.
