A Short History of the First Outdoor Fountains
A Short History of the First Outdoor Fountains As initially developed, water fountains were crafted to be practical, directing water from creeks or aqueducts to the inhabitants of towns and settlements, where the water could be utilized for cooking, washing, and drinking. To generate water flow through a fountain until the later part of the 1800’s, and generate a jet of water, required the force of gravity and a water source such as a spring or reservoir, located higher than the fountain. Fountains spanning history have been crafted as monuments, impressing hometown citizens and tourists alike. When you encounter a fountain today, that is not what the 1st water fountains looked like.
