The Father Of Rome's Water Fountain Design And Style There are countless celebrated fountains in the city center of Rome. One of the greatest sculptors and designers of the 17th century, Gian Lorenzo Bernini fashioned, conceptualized and constructed nearly all of them. Bernini's father, a renowned Florentine sculptor, mentored his young son, and they ultimately moved to Rome, in order to fully express their art, primarily in the form of public water fountains and water features. An outstanding employee, Bernin earned encouragement and the patronage of popes and well known painters. Initially he was recognized for his sculpting skills. Most notably in the Vatican, he used a base of experience in ancient Greek architecture and melded it seamlessly with Roman marble. He was affected by many a great artists, however, Michelangelo had the biggest effect on his work.

An unnamed French water feature designer became an globally celebrated hydraulic pioneer in the later part of the 1500's. By designing landscapes and grottoes with incorporated and ingenious water attributes, he began his career in Italy by receiving Royal commissions in Brussels, London and Germany. The text, “The Principles of Moving Forces,” authored near the end of his life in France, became the fundamental writing on hydraulic mechanics and engineering. Describing the latest hydraulic systems, the publication also modified critical hydraulic developments of classical antiquity. As a mechanized way to push water, Archimedes devised the water screw, chief among key hydraulic innovations. Sunlight heated up the water in a pair of hidden containers adjoining to the beautiful water feature were shown in an illustration. Activating the water feature is heated water that expands and rises to seal up the water lines. Pumps, water wheels, water features and backyard pond designs are included in the book.
