The History of Fountains

The History of Fountains Pope Nicholas V, himself a learned man, ruled the Roman Catholic Church from 1397 to 1455 during which time he commissioned many translations of old classical Greek documents into Latin. Beautifying Rome and making it the worthy capital of the Christian world was at the core of his objectives. Reconstruction of the Acqua Vergine, a desolate Roman aqueduct which had transported clean drinking water into the city from eight miles away, began in 1453 at the behest of the Pope. The ancient Roman custom of building an awe-inspiring commemorative fountain at the location where an aqueduct arrived, also known as a mostra, was revived by Nicholas V. At the behest of the Pope, architect Leon Battista Alberti began the construction of a wall fountain in the spot where we now find the Trevi Fountain. The water which eventually supplied the Trevi Fountain as well as the acclaimed baroque fountains in the Piazza del Popolo and Piazza Navona flowed from the modified aqueduct which he had renovated.

The best styles for your garden wall fountain are those which are handmade, easy to put up and not too heavy to hang. Ensure that your fountain is manageable as far as upkeep is concerned. Even though installing certain fountains can be difficult, the majority require little effort because the only parts which demand special care are the re-circulating pump and the hardware to hang them.
