Bernini’s Early Italian Fountains
Bernini’s Early Italian Fountains
The Barcaccia, a stunning fountain built at the base of the Trinita dei Monti in Piaza di Spagna, was Bernini's earliest water fountain. To this day, you will see Roman locals and vacation goers occupying this space to revel in chit chatter and being among other people. One of the city’s most stylish meeting spots are the streets surrounding Bernini's fountain, which would undoubtedly have brought a smile to the great Bernini. The master's first water fountain of his career was built at around 1630 at the request of Pope Urbano VIII. The fountain’s central motif is based on an enormous vessel slowly sinking into the Mediterranean. According to 16th century texts, a great flood of the Tevere covered the entire area in water, an event which was commemorated by the magnificent fountain. In 1665, France was graced by Bernini's only lengthy trip outside of Italy.
Your Outdoor Living Area: A Great Spot for a Garden Fountain
Your Outdoor Living Area: A Great Spot for a Garden Fountain You can perfect your outdoor area by adding a wall fountain or an outdoor garden water feature to your property or gardening project. A myriad of present-day designers and fountain artisans have found ideas in the fountains and water features of the past. As such, introducing one of these to your interior is a superb way to connect it to the past. The advantage of having a garden fountain extends beyond its beauty as it also appeals to birds and other wildlife, in addition to harmonizing the ecosystem with the water and moisture it emits into the atmosphere. Birds drawn to a fountain or bird bath often frighten off irksome flying invaders, for instance. The space necessary for a cascading or spouting fountain is substantial, so a wall fountain is the perfect size for a small yard. There are two types of fountains to choose from including the freestanding version with a flat back and an attached basin set up against a fence or a wall in your yard, or the wall-mounted, self-contained version which is suspended directly on a wall. Adding a fountain to an existent wall requires that you include a fountain mask as well as a basin at the bottom to collect the water. The plumbing and masonry work necessary for this type of work requires training, so it is best to employ a skilled person rather than do it yourself.
