"Primitive" Greek Artwork: Outdoor Statuary
"Primitive" Greek Artwork: Outdoor Statuary The initial freestanding statuary was designed by the Archaic Greeks, a recognized achievement since until then the only carvings in existence were reliefs cut into walls and pillars. Younger, attractive male or female (kore) Greeks were the subject matter of most of the sculptures, or kouros figures. Representing beauty to the Greeks, the kouroi were created to appear rigid and always had foot forward; the males were healthy, robust, and naked. Life-sized versions of the kouroi appeared beginning in 650 BC. The Archaic period was tumultuous for the Greeks as they progressed into more sophisticated forms of government and art, and gained more data about the peoples and societies outside of Greece. Similar to other periods of historical conflict, disputes were common, and there were battles between city-states like The Arcadian wars, the Spartan invasion of Samos.Original Water Delivery Techniques in Rome
Original Water Delivery Techniques in Rome Prior to 273, when the first elevated aqueduct, Aqua Anio Vetus, was made in Roma, inhabitants who dwelled on hillsides had to go further down to collect their water from natural sources. Outside of these aqueducts and springs, wells and rainwater-collecting cisterns were the sole techniques around at the time to supply water to areas of higher elevation. From the early sixteenth century, water was routed to Pincian Hill through the subterranean channel of Acqua Vergine. As originally constructed, the aqueduct was provided along the length of its channel with pozzi (manholes) constructed at regular intervals. Even though they were initially planned to make it possible to support the aqueduct, Cardinal Marcello Crescenzi started out using the manholes to collect water from the channel, commencing when he purchased the property in 1543. Whilst the cardinal also had a cistern to accumulate rainwater, it couldn't produce a sufficient amount of water.
Keep Your Landscape Fountain Tidy
Keep Your Landscape Fountain Tidy Appropriate care and regular upkeep are important to the longevity of water fountains.
A complete cleaning every three-four months is recommended for garden fountains. Before cleaning, all the water must be taken out. Then use mild soap and a soft sponge to clean the innner part of the reservoir. If there is delicate artwork, you might need to use a toothbrush for those hard-to-reach areas. Be sure to carefully rinse the interior of the fountain to make sure all the soap is gone.
It is highly suggested taking the pump apart to better clean the inside and get rid of any plankton or calcium. Letting it soak in vinegar for several hours first will make it alot easier to clean. Mineral or rain water, versus tap water, is ideal in order to avoid any build-up of chemicals inside the pump.
One final tip for keeping your fountain in top working order is to check the water level every day and make sure it is full. Low water levels can damage the pump - and you don't want that!
Choose from Many Exterior Wall Fountain Styles
Choose from Many Exterior Wall Fountain Styles Wall fountains are well suited to little verandas or yards because they do not take up too much space while also adding a bit of flair and providing a great place to find peace and quiet. Whatever design of outdoor wall fountain you are searching for whether it be traditional, modern, classic, or Asian you will certainly find the one you like best.
Depending on your requirements, you can select from mounted or freestanding models. Mounted wall fountains are little and self-contained versions which can be displayed on a wall. Ordinarily made of resin (to look like stone) or fiber glass, these sorts of fountains are lightweight and easy to hang. Free-standing fountains, often referred to as floor fountains, are sizable, have a basin situated on the ground and a smooth side which leans against a wall. There are no weight constraints on these types of cast stone water features.
Customized fountains which can be incorporated into a new or existing wall are often recommended by landscaping designers. Hiring an expert mason is your best option to construct the basin and install the necessary plumbing. It is also essential to add a spout or fountain mask to build it into the wall. Custom-built wall fountains add to a unified appearance because they become part of the scenery rather than look like a later addition.
