Bernini's earliest fountain, named Barcaccia, is a masterful work of art seen at the bottom of the Trinita dei Monti in Piaza di Spagna. To this day, you will see Roman locals and vacation goers occupying this spot to revel in chit chatter and being among other people. One of the city’s most stylish gathering places are the streets surrounding Bernini's fountain, which would undoubtedly have brought a smile to the great Bernini. The master's very first fountain of his career was built at around 1630 at the request of Pope Urbano VIII. An enormous boat slowly sinking into the Mediterranean is the fountain's central theme. Period reports dating back to the 16th century indicate that the fountain was constructed as a memorial to those who lost their lives in the great flooding of the Tevere. Absenting himself from Italy only once in his life for a long-lasting time period, in 1665 Bernini voyaged to France.

The kouroi became life-sized commencing in 650 BC. A substantial era of transformation for the Greeks, the Archaic period helped bring about more forms of state, expressions of artwork, and a higher appreciation of people and cultures outside of Greece. Nonetheless, the Greek civilization was not slowed down by these fights.
