Rome’s Early Water Transport Systems 0862549651261300588.jpg Rome’s Early Water Transport Systems Rome’s 1st elevated aqueduct, Aqua Anio Vetus, was built in 273 BC; prior to that, residents living at higher elevations had to rely on local springs for their water. Throughout this period, there were only 2 other innovations capable of offering water to elevated areas, subterranean wells and cisterns, which gathered rainwater. From the early sixteenth century, water was routed to Pincian Hill by using the subterranean channel of Acqua Vergine. Pozzi, or manholes, were constructed at regular intervals along the aqueduct’s channel. During the roughly 9 years he owned the residential property, from 1543 to 1552, Cardinal Marcello Crescenzi used these manholes to take water from the network in buckets, though they were originally established for the objective of maintaining and maintaining the aqueduct. Apparently, the rainwater cistern on his property wasn’t enough to meet his needs. That is when he made the decision to create an access point to the aqueduct that ran under his property.

The Beautiful First Wonders by Bernini

The Beautiful First Wonders by Bernini The Barcaccia, a stunning fountain built at the base of the Trinita dei Monti in Piaza di Spagna, was Bernini's earliest fountain. To this day, you will find Roman locals and vacation goers occupying this area to revel in chit chatter and being among other people. The streets neighboring his water fountain have come to be one of the city’s most fashionable gathering places, something which would certainly have pleased Bernini himself. In about 1630, the great master designed the very first fountain of his career at the behest of Pope Ubano VIII. A massive ship slowly sinking into the Mediterranean is the fountain's central theme. According to 16th century reports, a great flood of the Tevere covered the entire area in water, an event which was memorialized by the eye-catching fountain. In 1665, France was graced by Bernini's one-and-only prolonged voyage outside of Italy.
