The First Public Fountains of Human History
The First Public Fountains of Human History The water from rivers and other sources was originally provided to the occupants of nearby communities and municipalities via water fountains, whose purpose was largely practical, not artistic. To make water flow through a fountain until the late 1800’s, and create a jet of water, required the force of gravity and a water source such as a spring or lake, situated higher than the fountain. Typically used as monuments and commemorative structures, water fountains have inspired people from all over the world throughout the centuries. If you saw the very first fountains, you probably would not identify them as fountains.
Uncomplicated stone basins created from nearby rock were the original fountains, used for spiritual functions and drinking water. 2000 BC is when the oldest identified stone fountain basins were used. Gravity was the energy source that operated the earliest water fountains. Drinking water was supplied by public fountains, long before fountains became decorative public statues, as attractive as they are functional. The people of Rome began building ornate fountains in 6 B.C., most of which were metallic or stone masks of creatures and mythological representations. Water for the public fountains of Rome was delivered to the city via a complex system of water aqueducts.
Contemporary Sculpture in Old Greece
Contemporary Sculpture in Old Greece A good number of sculptors were remunerated by the temples to enhance the elaborate columns and archways with renderings of the gods up until the time period came to a close and countless Greeks began to think of their religion as superstitious rather than sacred, when it became more typical for sculptors to portray ordinary men and women as well. Rich families would sometimes commission a rendering of their ancestors for their large familial burial tombs; portraiture also became frequent and would be appropriated by the Romans upon their acquisition of Greek civilization. The usage of sculpture and other art forms varied through the many years of The Greek Classical period, a duration of creative progress when the arts had more than one goal. Greek sculpture is perhaps enticing to us nowadays seeing that it was an avant-garde experiment in the ancient world, so it doesn't make a difference whether its original function was religious zeal or artistic enjoyment.
