Keeping Your Landscape Fountain Tidy
Keeping Your Landscape Fountain Tidy In order to ensure that water fountains last a while, it is important to practice regular maintenance. A common concern with fountains is that they tend to collect dirt and debris, so it is essential that you keep it free from this. On top of that, algae can be a challenge, because sunshine hitting the water permits it to form quickly. To avoid this, take vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, or sea salt and add straight into the water. Bleach can also be mixed into the water, but this is not the ideal option because it can harm birds or other animals.Every 3-4 months, garden fountains should have a decent cleaning. Before you can start cleaning it you need to empty out all of the water. As soon as it is empty, scrub inside the reservoir with a gentle cleanser. A helpful tip is to use a toothbrush if there are tiny hard-to-reach spots. Do not leave any soap deposits inside of or on the fountain.
It is highly recommended taking the pump apart to better clean the inside and eliminate any plankton or calcium. You might want to let it soak in vinegar for a few hours to make it quicker to wash. Build-up can be a big problem, so use mineral or rain water over tap water, when possible, to prevent this dilemma.
Lastly, make sure your fountain is always full by looking at it every day - this will keep it in tip-top shape. Allowing the water to go below the pump’s intake level, can cause major damage and even make the pump burn out - an undesired outcome!
