Attributes of Garden Sculpture in Archaic Greece

Attributes of Garden Sculpture in Archaic Greece The initial freestanding statuary was designed by the Archaic Greeks, a recognized accomplishment since until then the sole carvings in existence were reliefs cut into walls and pillars. Youthful, ideal male or female (kore) Greeks were the subject matter of most of the statues, or kouros figures. Considered by Greeks to represent splendour, the kouroi were formed into rigid, forward facing poses with one foot outstretched, and the male statues were always nude, well-developed, and athletic. The kouroi started to be life-sized beginning in 650 BC. During the Archaic period, a great time of changes, the Greeks were developing new sorts of government, expressions of art, and a greater awareness of people and cultures outside Greece. But these disputes did not stop the growth of the Greek civilization. {

The Dissemination of Fountain Design Knowledge

Dissemination Fountain Design Knowledge 5508988028170460.jpg The Dissemination of Fountain Design Knowledge The published documents and illustrated books of the time contributed to the evolution of scientific innovation, and were the primary methods of transmitting useful hydraulic concepts and water fountain ideas all through Europe. In the later part of the 1500's, a French fountain architect (whose name has been lost) was the internationally renowned hydraulics leader. With imperial commissions in Brussels, London and Germany, he began his work in Italy, developing expertise in garden design and grottoes with integrated and clever water features. The publication, “The Principles of Moving Forces,” penned near the end of his life in France, turned out to be the fundamental text on hydraulic mechanics and engineering. Describing the latest hydraulic technologies, the book also updated key hydraulic discoveries of classical antiquity. As a mechanical way to push water, Archimedes devised the water screw, chief among important hydraulic breakthroughs. Two hidden containers heated up by sunlight in an space next to the ornamental water feature were shown in an illustration. The heated water expands and subsequently rises and closes the water lines consequently triggering the water fountain. Pumps, water wheels, water features and backyard pond concepts are mentioned in the publication.
