The Garden Water Fountains

The Garden Water Fountains The water from springs and other sources was originally delivered to the citizens of nearby towns and municipalities via water fountains, whose design was primarily practical, not artistic. Gravity was the power supply of water fountains up until the close of the 19th century, using the potent power of water traveling downhill from a spring or creek to push the water through spigots or other outlets. Striking and spectacular, prominent water fountains have been crafted as memorials in most cultures. The contemporary fountains of today bear little similarity to the very first water fountains. The 1st known water fountain was a rock basin created that served as a receptacle for drinking water and ceremonial functions. Rock basins are believed to have been first used around 2,000 BC. The spraying of water emerging from small spouts was pressured by gravity, the sole power source builders had in those days. Drinking water was supplied by public fountains, long before fountains became elaborate public monuments, as attractive as they are functional. Fountains with decorative Gods, mythological monsters, and animals began to show up in Rome in about 6 BC, made from rock and bronze. A well-engineered system of reservoirs and aqueducts kept Rome's public fountains supplied with fresh water.
