Up until the Archaic Greeks created the very first freestanding statuary, a noteworthy triumph, carvings had primarily been completed in walls and pillars as reliefs. To fully reveal their skill, mainly in the form of community water features and water fountains, Bernini's father, a distinguished Florentine sculptor, guided his young son, and they ultimately moved in the Roman Capitol. An excellent employee, the young Bernini earned praise and patronage of many popes and influential designers. At first he was renowned for his sculpting skills. He used his ability and melded it seamlessly with Roman marble, most notably in the Vatican. He was influenced by many great artists, however, Michelangelo had the biggest effect on his work.

Acqua Vergine: The Remedy to Rome's Water Problems Previous to 273, when the very first elevated aqueduct, Aqua Anio Vetus, was established in Rome, inhabitants who resided on hills had to travel even further down to gather their water from natural sources.
Outside of these aqueducts and springs, wells and rainwater-collecting cisterns were the sole technological innovations available at the time to supply water to segments of greater elevation. Starting in the sixteenth century, a new system was introduced, using Acqua Vergine’s subterranean sections to generate water to Pincian Hill. As originally constructed, the aqueduct was provided along the length of its channel with pozzi (manholes) constructed at regular intervals. The manholes made it more straightforward to thoroughly clean the channel, but it was also achievable to use buckets to extract water from the aqueduct, as we witnessed with Cardinal Marcello Crescenzi when he owned the property from 1543 to 1552, the year he died. He didn’t get an adequate amount water from the cistern that he had constructed on his property to gather rainwater. That is when he made a decision to create an access point to the aqueduct that ran directly below his residence.
