The Dispersion of Outdoor Fountain Design Knowledge
The Dispersion of Outdoor Fountain Design Knowledge
Dissiminating pragmatic hydraulic knowledge and fountain design ideas throughout Europe was accomplished with the printed papers and illustrated books of the time. In the later part of the 1500's, a French water feature designer (whose name has been lost) was the globally renowned hydraulics innovator. With imperial mandates in Brussels, London and Germany, he started his career in Italy, developing know-how in garden design and grottoes with integrated and ingenious water hydraulics. In France, near the closure of his life, he penned “The Principle of Moving Forces”, a book that became the essential text on hydraulic mechanics and engineering. Explaining modern hydraulic technologies, the publication furthermore modified key hydraulic discoveries of classical antiquity. The water screw, a mechanical method to move water, and developed by Archimedes, was featured in the book. Natural light warmed the liquid in two concealed containers adjacent to the beautiful water feature were displayed in an illustration. Activating the water fountain is heated liquid which expands and ascends to close up the water lines. Models for pumps, water wheels, water features and outdoor ponds are also mentioned in the book.
Archaic Greek Art: Garden Statuary
Archaic Greek Art: Garden Statuary
Archaic Greeks were renowned for creating the first freestanding statuary; up till then, most carvings were formed out of walls and pillars as reliefs. Most of the freestanding statues were of young, winsome male or female (kore) Greeks and are known as kouros figures. Considered by Greeks to characterize splendour, the kouroi were formed into stiff, forward facing positions with one foot outstretched, and the male statues were always nude, muscular, and athletic. Around 650 BC, life-size versions of the kouroi began to be seen. A substantial time of improvement for the Greeks, the Archaic period helped bring about more forms of government, expressions of art, and a higher comprehension of people and cultures outside of Greece. And yet these disagreements did not prevent the emergence of the Greek civilization. {
