The History of Outdoor Water Fountains
The History of Outdoor Water Fountains Pope Nicholas V, himself a learned man, ruled the Roman Catholic Church from 1397 to 1455 during which time he commissioned many translations of ancient classic Greek texts into Latin.
It was imperative for him to embellish the city of Rome to make it worthy of being called the capital of the Christian world. At the behest of the Pope, the Aqua Vergine, a ruined aqueduct which had transported clean drinking water into Rome from eight miles away, was restored starting in 1453. Building a mostra, an imposing celebratory fountain built by ancient Romans to memorialize the entry point of an aqueduct, was a custom revived by Nicholas V. The present-day location of the Trevi Fountain was previously occupied by a wall fountain commissioned by the Pope and constructed by the architect Leon Battista Alberti. Modifications and extensions, included in the repaired aqueduct, eventually supplied the Trevi Fountain and the well-known baroque fountains in the Piazza del Popolo and Piazza Navona with the necessary water supply.
Characteristics of Outdoor Statues in Archaic Greece
Characteristics of Outdoor Statues in Archaic Greece The Archaic Greeks developed the very first freestanding statuary, an amazing achievement as most sculptures up until then had been reliefs cut into walls and pillars. Younger, appealing male or female (kore) Greeks were the subject matter of most of the statues, or kouros figures. Symbolizing beauty to the Greeks, the kouroi were made to appear stiff and always had foot forward; the males were healthy, strong, and nude. In about 650 BC, the differences of the kouroi became life-sized. The Archaic period was turbulent for the Greeks as they evolved into more refined forms of federal government and art, and gained more data about the peoples and civilizations outside of Greece. The Arcadian battles, the Spartan invasion of Samos, and other wars between city-states are examples of the sorts of conflicts that emerged frequently, which is consistent with other times of historical transformation.
Bernini's Earliest Showpieces
Bernini's Earliest Showpieces The Barcaccia, a beautiful water fountain constructed at the base of the Trinita dei Monti in Piaza di Spagna, was Bernini's earliest water fountain. Roman locals and site seers who enjoy conversation as well as being the company of others still flood this spot. Today, the city streets surrounding Bernini's water fountain are a trendy area where people go to meet, something which the artist would have been pleased to learn. In about 1630, the great artist designed the first fountain of his career at the behest of Pope Ubano VIII. An enormous boat slowly sinking into the Mediterranean is the fountain's central theme. The great 16th century flood of the Tevere, which left the entire region inundated with water, was memorialized by the fountain according to documents from the time. In 1665, France was graced by Bernini's only lengthy trip outside of Italy.
Use a Wall Water Fountain To Help Boost Air Quality
Use a Wall Water Fountain To Help Boost Air Quality An otherwise boring ambiance can be livened up with an indoor wall fountain. Installing this type of indoor feature positively affects your senses and your general well-being. The science behind this theory supports the fact that water fountains can favorably impact your health. The negative ions generated by water features are counterbalanced with the positive ions produced by modern-day conveniences.
Positive changes to both your mental and physical well-being take place when the negative ions are overpowered by the positive ions. The increased serotonin levels resulting from these types of features make people more aware, serene and energized. Due to the negative ions it releases, an indoor wall fountain can improve your spirits and also eliminate impurities in the air. Allergies, air-borne pollutants among other annoyances can be done away with by these water features. And finally, water fountains are excellent at absorbing dust and microbes floating in the air and as a result in bettering your overall health.
