How Technical Concepts of Fountains Spread
How Technical Concepts of Fountains Spread Throughout the European countries, the primary means of dissiminating useful hydraulic understanding and fountain design ideas were the published papers and illustrated books of the time, which contributed to the advancement of scientific innovation.
In the late 1500's, a French water feature developer (whose name has been lost) was the globally recognized hydraulics innovator. His competence in creating landscapes and grottoes with built-in and imaginative water attributes began in Italy and with mandates in Brussels, London and Germany. In France, near the closure of his life, he wrote “The Principle of Moving Forces”, a book that turned into the fundamental text on hydraulic technology and engineering. The book updated key hydraulic discoveries since classical antiquity as well as explaining modern hydraulic technologies. The water screw, a technical means to move water, and developed by Archimedes, was featured in the book. Sunlight heating water in a pair of vessels unseen in a room adjacent to an beautiful water feature was presented in one illustration. What occurs is the heated liquid expanded, goes up and locks up the piping heading to the water feature, thereby leading to stimulation. Pumps, water wheels, water features and garden pond styles are mentioned in the publication.
Water Delivery Solutions in Historic Rome
Water Delivery Solutions in Historic Rome Aqua Anio Vetus, the first raised aqueduct founded in Rome, began delivering the men and women living in the hills with water in 273 BC, although they had relied on natural springs up until then.
When aqueducts or springs weren’t easily accessible, people dwelling at higher elevations turned to water taken from underground or rainwater, which was made possible by wells and cisterns. To deliver water to Pincian Hill in the early 16th century, they implemented the emerging strategy of redirecting the movement from the Acqua Vergine aqueduct’s underground channel. During its initial construction, pozzi (or manholes) were positioned at set intervals alongside the aqueduct’s channel. Whilst these manholes were provided to make it much easier to preserve the aqueduct, it was also possible to use buckets to extract water from the channel, which was exercised by Cardinal Marcello Crescenzi from the time he bought the property in 1543 to his death in 1552. The cistern he had made to collect rainwater wasn’t adequate to meet his water needs. That is when he made a decision to create an access point to the aqueduct that ran underneath his property.
The Magificent First Masterpieces by Bernini
The Magificent First Masterpieces by Bernini
Bernini's earliest fountain, named Barcaccia, is a masterful work of art seen at the foot of the Trinita dei Monti in Piaza di Spagna. To this day, you will see Roman locals and vacation goers filling this space to revel in chit chatter and being among other people. One of the city’s most stylish meeting places are the streets surrounding Bernini's fountain, which would undoubtedly have brought a smile to the great Bernini. The master's very first fountain of his career was built at around 1630 at the request of Pope Urbano VIII. The fountain’s central motif is based on a massive vessel slowly sinking into the Mediterranean Sea. Period writings dating back to the 16th century show that the fountain was constructed as a monument to those who lost their lives in the great flooding of the Tevere. In 1665, France was graced by Bernini's one-and-only lengthy voyage outside of Italy.
