Inventors of the First Fountains
Inventors of the First Fountains Water fountain designers were multi-talented people from the 16th to the late 18th century, often working as architects, sculptors, artisans, engineers and cultivated scholars all in one. Leonardo da Vinci as a inspired master, inventor and scientific virtuoso exemplified this Renaissance creator. With his tremendous fascination about the forces of nature, he investigated the attributes and motion of water and systematically annotated his examinations in his now recognized notebooks. Combining inventiveness with hydraulic and horticultural talent, early Italian water feature designers transformed private villa settings into amazing water exhibits complete with emblematic implications and natural charm. The splendors in Tivoli were developed by the humanist Pirro Ligorio, who was renowned for his skill in archeology, architecture and garden design. For the many properties close to Florence, other water feature creators were well versed in humanist themes as well as classical technical texts, masterminding the phenomenal water marbles, water highlights and water antics.
The Beautiful Early Wonders by Bernini
The Beautiful Early Wonders by Bernini The Barcaccia, Bernini's very first water fountain, is a magnificent chef d'oeuvre built at the bottom of the Trinita dei Monti in Piaza di Spagna.
To this day, this area is filled with Roman locals and tourists alike who enjoy debate and each other's company. One of the city’s most stylish meeting places are the streets surrounding Bernini's fountain, which would certainly have brought a smile to the great Bernini. Dating back to around 1630, Pope Urbano VIII commissioned what was to be the earliest water fountain of the artist's career. Depicted in the fountain's design is a great vessel gradually sinking into the Mediterranean Sea. The great flooding of the Tevere that blanketed the whole region with water in the 16th was memorialized by this momentous fountain as recorded by reports dating back to this time. Absenting himself from Italy only once in his life for a lengthy period of time, in 1665 Bernini voyaged to France.
