Keep Your Garden Water fountain Tidy
In order to ensure that water fountains last a while, it is vital to practice regular maintenance. It is important to clean it out and take out any debris or foreign elements that might have fallen into or onto it. Also, algae tends to build up wherever natural light meets water. Mix hydrogen peroxide, sea salt, or vinegar into the water to avoid this particular dilemma. Bleach can also be mixed into the water, however this is not an ideal option as it can harm birds or other animals. Every three-four months, garden fountains should have a good cleaning. First you must drain the water. When you have done this, wash inside the water reservoir with a gentle detergent. A helpful tip is to use a toothbrush if there are tiny hard-to-reach spots. Be sure to thoroughly rinse the interior of the fountain to make sure all the soap is gone.
It is highly recommended taking the pump apart to better clean the inside and eliminate any plankton or calcium. Letting it soak in vinegar for a few hours first will make it alot easier to clean. Build-up can be a big problem, so use mineral or rain water over tap water, when possible, to prevent this dilemma.
Finally, be sure to have a quick look at your fountain every day and add water if you see that the level is too low. Allowing the water level to get too low can cause damage to the pump - and you certainly don't want that!
