The Magificent First Wonders by Bernini
The Magificent First Wonders by Bernini The Barcaccia, a stunning water fountain built at the base of the Trinita dei Monti in Piaza di Spagna, was Bernini's earliest fountain. To this day, this spot is filled with Roman locals and travelers alike who enjoy conversation and each other's company. Today, the city streets around Bernini's fountain are a trendy area where people go to meet, something which the artist would have been pleased to learn. Dating back to around 1630, Pope Urbano VIII mandated what was to be the earliest water fountain of the master's career. An enormous vessel slowly sinking into the Mediterranean is the fountain's central theme. Period writings dating back to the 16th century indicate that the fountain was built as a memorial to those who lost their lives in the great flooding of the Tevere.
In 1665, France was graced by Bernini's only lengthy voyage outside of Italy.
The Original Fountain Creative Designers
The Original Fountain Creative Designers Multi-talented people, fountain artists from the 16th to the late 18th century frequently functioned as architects, sculptors, artists, engineers and highly educated scholars all in one person.
Exemplifying the Renaissance artist as a creative master, Leonardo da Vinci toiled as an innovator and scientific specialist. He methodically annotated his examinations in his now celebrated notebooks about his investigations into the forces of nature and the properties and movement of water. Brilliant water exhibits packed with symbolic meaning and natural wonder converted private villa settings when early Italian water fountain designers combined creativity with hydraulic and landscaping abilities. The humanist Pirro Ligorio, celebrated for his virtuosity in archeology, architecture and garden design, delivered the vision behind the splendors in Tivoli. Well versed in humanist themes as well as classical scientific texts, some other water feature makers were masterminding the excellent water marbles, water features and water jokes for the numerous properties around Florence.
