Aqueducts: The Answer to Rome's Water Troubles

Aqueducts: The Answer to Rome's Water Troubles Rome’s 1st raised aqueduct, Aqua Anio Vetus, was built in 273 BC; prior to that, inhabitants residing at higher elevations had to rely on local streams for their water. Throughout this time period, there were only two other innovations capable of providing water to high areas, subterranean wells and cisterns, which amassed rainwater. In the early 16th century, the city began to utilize the water that flowed beneath the earth through Acqua Vergine to provide drinking water to Pincian Hill. As originally constructed, the aqueduct was provided along the length of its channel with pozzi (manholes) constructed at regular intervals. The manholes made it more straightforward to thoroughly clean the channel, but it was also possible to use buckets to pull water from the aqueduct, as we discovered with Cardinal Marcello Crescenzi when he owned the property from 1543 to 1552, the year he died. The cistern he had constructed to obtain rainwater wasn’t sufficient to meet his water needs. Through an opening to the aqueduct that ran underneath his property, he was able to satisfy his water wants.

The Distribution of Outdoor Garden Fountain Manufacturing Knowledge in Europe

The Distribution of Outdoor Garden Fountain Manufacturing Knowledge in Europe The circulated papers and illustrated books of the time contributed to the evolution of scientific innovation, and were the primary means of transmitting practical hydraulic facts and water feature suggestions throughout Europe.Distribution Outdoor Garden Fountain Manufacturing Knowledge Europe 61582831.jpg An un-named French water fountain engineer was an internationally famed hydraulic innovator in the late 1500's. His expertise in developing gardens and grottoes with integrated and brilliant water fountains began in Italy and with mandates in Brussels, London and Germany. In France, towards the closure of his life, he penned “The Principle of Moving Forces”, a book that turned into the primary text on hydraulic technology and engineering. Classical antiquity hydraulic discoveries were outlined as well as revisions to essential classical antiquity hydraulic discoveries in the book. The water screw, a technical way to move water, and developed by Archimedes, was featured in the book. An decorative water feature with sunlight heating the liquid in two vessels stashed in an adjacent area was displayed in one illustration. The hot liquid expands and subsequently rises and closes the water pipes thereby triggering the fountain. Yard ponds as well as pumps, water wheels, and water feature concepts are talked about in the publication.
