Keeping Your Large Garden Fountains Clean
Keeping Your Large Garden Fountains Clean Adequate care and regular cleaning are important to the longevity of water fountains. A common concern with fountains is that they tend to accumulate dirt and debris, so it is essential that you keep it free from this. Another factor is that water that is exposed to sunlight is prone to growing algae.
Experts suggest that the typical garden fountain undergoes a thorough scouring every 3-4 months. First you must empty the water. As soon as it is empty, wash inside the reservoir with a gentle cleanser. A helpful tip is to use a toothbrush if there are tiny hard-to-reach spots. Be sure to thoroughly rinse the inside of the fountain to make sure all the soap is gone.
Various organisms and calcium deposits may get inside the pump, so it is recommended to take it apart and clean it completely. To make it less difficult, soak it in vinegar overnight before cleaning. Mineral or rain water, versus tap water, is ideal in order to prevent any build-up of chemicals inside the pump.
And finally, make sure the water level is always full in order to keep your fountain running optimally. If the water level slides below the pump’s intake level, it can harm the pump and cause it to burn out - something you do not want to happen!
