One of the greatest sculptors and designers of the 17th century, Gian Lorenzo Bernini fashioned, created and built almost all of them. The juvenile Bernini was an exemplary worker and attained praise and backing of significant painters as well as popes. Originally he was celebrated for his sculpting skills. He used his ability and melded it seamlessly with Roman marble, most notably in the Vatican. Though many artists had an influence on his work, Michelangelo had the most profound effect.

Characteristics of Garden Statuary in Archaic Greece The Archaic Greeks built the very first freestanding statuary, an awesome achievement as most sculptures up until then had been reliefs cut into walls and pillars.
