The Source of Modern Day Fountains
The Source of Modern Day Fountains Pope Nicholas V, himself a well educated man, reigned the Roman Catholic Church from 1397 to 1455 during which time he commissioned many translations of ancient classical Greek texts into Latin. It was imperative for him to beautify the city of Rome to make it worthy of being known as the capital of the Christian world.
Starting in 1453, the ruined ancient Roman aqueduct known as the Aqua Vergine which had brought clean drinking water into the city from eight miles away, underwent repair at the bidding of the Pope. A mostra, a monumental dedicatory fountain constructed by ancient Romans to mark the point of entry of an aqueduct, was a tradition which was revived by Nicholas V. The architect Leon Battista Alberti was commissioned by the Pope to build a wall fountain where we now find the Trevi Fountain. The aqueduct he had reconditioned included modifications and extensions which eventually enabled it to supply water to the Trevi Fountain as well as the famed baroque fountains in the Piazza del Popolo and the Piazza Navona.
Your Outdoor Living Area: An Ideal Place for a Garden Fountain
Your Outdoor Living Area: An Ideal Place for a Garden Fountain The inclusion of a wall water feature or an outdoor garden fountain is a great way to embellish your yard or garden design. A myriad of present-day designers and fountain artisans have found inspiration in the fountains and water features of the past. Therefore, in order to link your home to previous times, include one these in your decor. Among the many properties of these beautiful garden water features is the water and moisture they release into the air which attracts birds and other wild life as well as helps to balance the ecosystem. For instance, irksome flying insects are usually discouraged by the birds drawn to the fountain or birdbath.Wall fountains are a good option if your yard is small because they do not need much space in comparison to a spouting or cascading fountain. There are two types of fountains to pick from including the freestanding model with a flat back and an attached basin set up against a fence or a wall in your yard, or the wall-mounted, self-contained variety which is hung directly on a wall. Make certain to include a fountain mask to an existing wall and a basin to collect the water at the base if you wish to add a fountain to your living area. The plumbing and masonry work necessary for this kind of work requires training, so it is best to hire a skilled person rather than go at it yourself.
