Keeping Your Garden Fountain Clean
Keeping Your Garden Fountain Clean Proper care and regular upkeep are important to the longevity of water fountains.
No more than three-four months should go by without an extensive cleansing of a fountain. First you must empty the water. Then use a soft rag and gentle cleanser to scrub the inside. Feel free to use a toothbrush if needed for any stubborn crevasses. Do not leave any soap deposits inside or on the fountain.
Calcium and fresh water organisms could get inside the pump, so you should really disassemble it to get it truly clean. To make it less strenuous, soak it in vinegar overnight before cleaning. Mineral or rain water, versus tap water, is ideal in order to avoid any build-up of chemicals inside the pump.
Finally, be sure to have a quick look at your fountain daily and add water if you see that the level is too low. Permitting the water level to get too low can cause damage to the pump - and you certainly do not want that!
