Early Water Delivery Techniques in Rome Prior to 273, when the very first elevated aqueduct, Aqua Anio Vetus, was made in Roma, citizens who dwelled on hills had to go even further down to get their water from natural sources. During this time period, there were only 2 other systems capable of delivering water to higher areas, subterranean wells and cisterns, which gathered rainwater.
