Eventually travelling to Rome to totally show their art, chiefly in the form of community water features, Bernini’s father, a famed Florentine sculptor, guided his young son. An excellent worker, the young Bernini received praise and the backing of various popes and influential designers. At the start he was known for his sculptural expertise. Most famously in the Vatican, he utilized a base of knowledge in classic Greek architecture and melded it effortlessly with Roman marble. He was influenced by many great artists, however, Michelangelo had the biggest impact on his work.
